Peter Hain's parting shot!

Readers of my previous postings, regarding the questionable association of the DWP and the American "outlaw" insurance company UNUM, may be aware of the awkward question that I have persistently asked, as yet avoided and unanswered.

Q.........Please provide your observations on Governmental association with UNUM insurance, who have been described as an "outlaw company who have acted in an illegal fashion for many years" and who "operate claims denial factories".

Peter Hain was asked this question just before Christmas by one of our NONE of THESE TURKEYS supporters, with little expectation of a response.

Surprise, surprise! He has responded thus:

"It would not be appropriate for me to comment on what has been said about UNUM's operation, either in Great Britain or overseas".

I wonder why? Is it a secret?

The question was not about what was SAID but about their record in the USA of being fined many millions of Dollars as a result of their illegal denial of legitimate claims.

UNUM have two main products and two main goals.

Products:

1. Disability and ill health Insurance.

2. Medical treatment insurance.

Goals:

1. To eradicate Social Welfare (The Welfare State). This makes the need for their disability and illness insurance product clearer in the marketplace.

2. To eradicate the NHS as we know it . This makes the need for their medical insurance product clearer in the marketplace.

The following statement by UNUM's Chairman in 2001 confirms this:

Chairman, Ward E Graffam recognised the ‘exciting developments’ in Britain: ‘The impending changes to the State ill-health benefits system will create unique sales opportunities across the entire disability market and we will be launching a concerted effort to harness the potential in these.’

Despite UNUM's clear influence in government, Hain deems it "inappropriate to comment".

Again, I wonder why? What had he to hide?....................as if I didn't know!!!

As a result of UNUM's business aspirations in the UK, it seems highly suspicious to me that politicians seem to reluctant to answer this particularly awkward question.

Come on Huw Lewis AM, I asked YOU politely, at least do me the courtesy of a response or has the cat got your tongue?

I refer to Huw in particular as he is the AM that endorses UNUM's local agent, Prof. Mansel Aylward as the fit and proper person to reconfigure Welsh NHS services. He describes Aylward as a person of "stature and integrity" despite Aylward's employment by an "OUTLAW" company.

Rhodri was asked the question before Christmas and promised a response, he's still dithering and I'm still waiting. A little reminder is due.

How's about someone asking Edwina Hart AM, Health Minister for a response. We need to know.

I would earnestly ask my reader to ask the same awkward question at every opportunity. I certainly intend to.

This matter will eventually affect ALL of the population of the UK, including YOU!

Beware, UNUM have you in their sights, whether you like it or not.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Your publicly pensioned pal.

No laughs there Nonny. Just a lot of pain and misery.

I am a big fan of this site and have used it for some time.

Unfortunately, here in Wales and the rest of the UK, most of the public are so apathetic and inward looking that they can't see the obvious dangers that UNUM's influence will have on their lives.

Of course, as soon as they realise what is happening in the DWP and NHS due to UNUM's influence it will be too late and, whinge as they may, the damage will be done.

I am reassured to see that I am not the only one who is aware of the dangers posed by the activities of UNUM, which are clearly intended to increase their cash-flow in order to compensate for their massive loss of business and the financial sanctions against them in the USA.

Their shares have suffered a substantial downturn and are currently around $6.00 so new markets are clearly needed.

We appear to be one of them.

The Welsh Assembly are currently in discussions with Mansel Aylward, UNUM's local agent, with a view to using his opinions in order to reconfigure Welsh NHS services.

As yet, I have been unable to obtain an answer to my awkward question regarding the Assembly's involvement with the "Outlaw" company.

I suppose I'll just have to be a little more persistent.

One thing's for sure: I have no intention of letting the matter drop and would hope that others will join in making the public aware of the clear danger that stares them in the face.

Your pal.

I fully agree - pain and misery and the very sad thing is everyone thinks it could never happen to them.

Thanks for your posting and link, Laura.

I will persist in my questioning at every opportunity.

The clear unwillingness and reluctance of politicians of all persuasions to address the UNUM matter indicates to me that there appears to be a cross-party consensus on UNUM's involvement in our NHS and DWP matters.

As we in Wales have Labour and the Welsh Nationalist Plaid Cymru in charge in the Assembly, I'll ask the same question of Plaid Cymru.

So here we are Plaid Cymru.

Are there any Plaid Cymru members who would like to answer the question:

Q......Please provide your observations on Welsh Assembly Government associations with UNUM, who have been described as "an OUTLAW company, who have operated in an ILLEGAL fashion for many years"?

I certainly won't hold my breath, neither will I stop the question until they face up to the reality of what faces us all.

Your pal.

Johnny thought you would like to see this
A TOP Merthyr medic has given his backing to a campaign aimed at tackling the expensive problem affecting 80 per cent of the population.

Cefn Coed professor, Mansel Aylward, has joined the key medical spokespeople speaking out for Welsh Backs – the Health Challenge Wales initiative aiming to raise awareness of back pain.

They say it is responsible for 9.5m lost working days in the UK, an average of 17.3 days absence for each sufferer and a £150m cost each year to NHS Wales.

Professor Aylward said: “Back pain is common and we all have an 80 per cent chance of getting it during our lifetime.

“Recovery is generally to be expected, but some people with uncomplicated back pain go on develop long-term disability and incapacity for work because of it.

“The evidence is strong that ill-informed beliefs that people have about their back pain can seriously hinder their recovery.”

He added: “I support Welsh Backs because in Wales, for the very first time, these damaging beliefs will be tackled head-on using a wide range of appropriately-focused educational and media campaigns that have been so successful in Australia, Canada and Scotland in reducing disability from back pain.”

Hello Mam.

Thanks for the heads-up regarding Welsh Backs. I thought for a moment that it was Rugby related.

Professor Mansel Aylward is well known for his enthusiasm for anything that denies DWP claimants their benefits.

You will have seen from my previous postings that Aylward is one of the main agents in the UK for UNUM, the American insurance company, previously described as an "OUTLAW company who have acted in an ILLEGAL manner for many years". They have also been accused of operating "claims denial factories".

His medical ethos revolves around what he describes as "organic" and "inorganic" illness.

In other words if he can see it, it's organic. If he can't, it's inorganic and doesn't exist.

This simple ethos has been responsible for untold misery in the UK wherein many genuinely disabled Benefits claimants have been disenfranchised by Aylward's inculcation of the UNUM "OUTLAW" methods of claims denial into the DWP.

Please be assured that Aylward's thinking is simply an expedient to the achievement of the removal of 1million claimants from the benefits system as per the Government's wishes, irrespective of whether they are genuine claimants or not.

Of course, this is intended to drive the Public from the National Insurance Scheme into the clutches of such as UNUM who may then privately disenfranchise them instead of Public disenfranchisement.

Further, these maverick medical views are NOT supported by the MAJORITY of doctors and to confirm this I append a quote from an UNUM document dated September 2005:

"We know that our views and understanding are not yet in the mainstream of doctors' thinking, but Government Policy is moving in the same direction, to a large extent driven by our thinking and that of our associates, both in the UK and overseas. It will not be long before the rest of medicine follows our lead."

So there you have it: Aylward and the like, on the fringes of medicine, are determined to continue their "OUTLAW" methods despite the clear opinions against them.

The main trouble is that Westminster and the Assembly appear to be so impressed by Aylward's alphabet of letters after his name that they can't see the sinister sub-agenda of increased insurance sales.

Personally speaking, I would describe Aylward as more of an 'administrative' doctor than a 'practising' one.

I have checked out the Welsh Backs site and quite honestly I am far from impressed. B******* with a Capital B.

The endorsements that it has from so-called celebrities, medical professionals and others actually say nothing. Not one of them gives a clear medical history of their alleged back pain and they merely spout the script as they are told.

There is little on the site that would impress Health Care Professionals and it seems to be aimed directly at those with back problems, who are exhorted to indulge in unsupervised 'cod' physiotherapeutic activity irrespective of the underlying causes of their back pain. This is quite frankly dangerous.

Incidentally, Aylward is responsible for the assertion made in the Western mail some months ago that if you are disabled in any way the best thing for you is to get a job.

His quote:

"Work Makes Happiness"

is somewhat redolent of those chilling words at the gates of Auschwitz:

"Arbeit Macht Frei"

Work Makes Freedom.

Whilst you're here Mam, how's about you checking my very awkward question regarding Assembly associations with the "OUTLAW" company and let me have your valued opinion?

I sometimes think that I have asked the unanswerable. Huw Lewis certainly thinks so.

Kindest regards.

Your pal.

Hi Johnny
I think your question is more than valid and valuable.
May be Huw L doesn't have an answer.
Why don't you posy it to his local paper, he has a column in the Merthyr Express, see if that prompts him.
He is not known for quick responses though, a friend of mine asked to see him months ago, she sent an email and rang his office, she hasn't heard anything and she lives in his constituency.
I think going back to your post, that any arm of government should deal with or associate with only "clean" companies and organisations.
I think often they are ill informed and take face value far to quickly, or they don't give a damn. Either is not acceptable.

Hello Mam.

Thanks for the tip re: the Merthyr Express.

I have just made a call to the ME outlining the questionable associations between Aylward, UNUM, the DWP and the Welsh Assembly.

The person to whom I spoke was completely unaware of this 'interesting' association and was most interested in what I had to say.

They were also informed of the sychophantic eulogies made of Prof. Mansel Aylward by Edwina Hart AM and Huw Lewis AM in October 9th's Plenary. They were also informed of Huw's apparent reluctance to answer my particularly cleverly worded question of great awkwardness.

They have promised to do their own research for confirmation of what I have said and I have provided the necessary pointers for them.

They certainly expressed great interest.

Naturally, they asked me to identify myself. Naturally, I said that I'm just yourpaljohnny for the time being.

Nevertheless, I think that I may have stirred a little interest in this matter and I have promised to supply them with as much info. as I am able.

Thanks again for the tip. Watch this space and hopefully the ME for further developments.

Your particularly probative pal.

Hello Mam.

Thanks for the contact details, I'll keep you informed.

I have, in the last few years, assisted a number of disabled folk in their quests for appropriate benefits and have been shocked to find that many have been disenfranchised on the basis of arbitrary and biased assessments made by DWP doctors.

In fact I have shown on a number of occasions that the doctor's have been untruthful. I don't like that, hence my interest.

This was amplified around the time of the imposition of Government targets to remove around a million Incapacity Benefit Claimants from benefits.

The BBC programme 'On the Fiddle' didn't help much either as it seemed to portray the majority of Incapacity Benefit Claimants as malingerers, fraudsters and scroungers. That really annoyed me and stoked my enthusiasm.

I have been researching UNUM and it's questionable activities in association with the DWP for a few years now and have, in my small way, and with others, opened something of a can of worms which has certainly 'taken off' since my access to the Internet.

As Mansel Aylward is a local boy from Merthyr, I feel that it is quite appropriate to involve the Merthyr Express at this initial stage. Who knows, this may be start of a greater exposure of what is happenng within the DWP and NHS services, right before your very eyes?

Maybe the ME will ask Huw Lewis to make a statement justifying his Plenary eulogy of Mansel Aylward?

Huw has dismissed my 'alternative CV' of Aylward as nothing more than defamatory and refuses to respond further.

Perhaps he would like to ask Aylward to sue me. If that were to be the case then I would willingly identify myself to them and hopefully see them in Court but I doubt that they would wish to test my evidence at Law.

I hope that I have established the fact that I'm not entirely daft and can assure all readers or both of you at least, that I have a great deal of documentary evidence to back-up my allegations.

Let battle commence.

Your pal.

johnny.

Hi Johnny,

just came across your blog.

Yes- the Hain/Aylward/Unum crap setting off huge alarm bells- you are not definitely not daft.

(in the words of young Mr Grace..)Keep up the good work. You're bookmarked and I hope to catch up with you soon.

Hello bimbo bluestocking.

Thanks for the contact and link.

The UNUM alarm bell appears to have a distinctly silent peal around the politcians that I've contacted.

"Nothing to do with us, guv'nor".

Unfortunately for them, there is a steady drip of information regarding UNUM and their shenanigans becoming available to all.

In political terms, this could be a 'hot potato' of massive proportions particularly when the Public realise that the Aylward/Wessley/Dewis/UNUM school of medical advice is as follows:

UNUM Sept 2005;

"We know that our views and understanding are not yet in the mainstream of doctor's thinking, but Government Policy is moving in the same direction...."

Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a move in this direction from "mainstream doctor's thinking".

Therefore, it now appears that Mainstream Medical Opinion can now be ignored by a Government whose sole motive for associating with UNUM is the saving of money by disenfranchisement of legitimate claimants by the use of what can correctly be described as 'Maverick' Medical Opinion.

The questioning continues, the fight goes on.

Your pal.

this was left on my Blog - where does Dr Aylward stand on this

Are the public aware that St Tydfil's Acute Mental Health Services are being run down. Over recent months since the takeover (sorry merger) began, the acute in-patient services have already lost 14 of their 42 over-stretched beds.
Is it worth asking Huw lewis for a comment I wonder

At 10 February 2008 at 01:08 , Blogger johnny foreigner said...

Hello Mam.

I don't know if Aylward was responsible for this particular 'reconfiguration' but I think that it may be assumed that this 'merger' has a financial purpose as opposed to an increase in the quality of patient care.

I don't think that Huw Lewis is really interested in responding to the 'awkward' question as he is too busy ingratiating himself after his removal from Cabinet. He won't rock the boat, but I may have to prompt him from time to time.

As you suggested, I contacted the Merthyr Express and provided them with about three A4 pages of information regarding the 'interesting' connections between UNUM and Aylward. I also outlined the history of UNUM's legal problems in the USA and provided the necessary references.

They appeared to be most interested in the matter and promised to "get back to me".

That was over a week ago and I have heard nothing from them since. Not even an acknowledgement of receipt.

It's probably too much of a 'hot potato' for them. Of course, I shouldn't forget that Huw is in their particular 'loop' as he is one of their contributors.

Nevertheless, as a result of the interest that has been shown via this blog, I have been contacted by a widespread number of interested parties, who are as equally determined, as I am, to expose the questionable associations between Government and UNUM.

Fortunately, the matter of private involvement in the DWP and the NHS is current news and offers plenty of scope for further publicity and exposure of UNUM.

Between us we are determined to expose the scandal that is being perpetrated right underneath our noses.

Presumably there are dark forces at work.

What information are you particularly seeking? Maybe I can help.
